Apple stellt den HomePod ein
Apple hat TechCrunch ein Statement zum großen HomePod gegeben:
HomePod mini has been a hit since its debut last fall, offering customers amazing sound, an intelligent assistant, and smart home control all for just $99. We are focusing our efforts on HomePod mini. We are discontinuing the original HomePod, it will continue to be available while supplies last through the Apple Online Store, Apple Retail Stores, and Apple Authorized Resellers. Apple will provide HomePod customers with software updates and service and support through Apple Care.
Das wars also. Ich hatte eigentlich zeitnah mit einem Update gerechnet, dass einen aktuellen Chip wie im HomePod mini verbaut bekommt. Mit Thread und mehr Power. Stattdessen zieht Apple den Stecker und empfiehlt im Zweifelsfall noch schnell noch einen HomePod aus dem Restbestand zu kaufen.
Davon würde ich eher abraten. Auch wenn Apple sagt, dass der HomePod weiter mit Softwareupdates versorgt wird, gibt es eben keine Möglichkeit den HomePod zu nutzen, als über Apple Software. Auch wenn ich davon ausgehen würde, dass das über AirPlay noch viele Jahre Problemlos gehen wird, bezweifle ich, dass Apple einen alten Chip noch jahrelang mit Updates versorgen wird. Falls Siri irgendwann also wirklich intelligent wird, bleibt der große HomePod wahrscheinlich außen vor.
